The Bachelor of Information Technology currently consists of ten core studies units, six major/specialisation units and eight complementary studies. Eight core units are completed in the first year, while the remaining two core units are completed later in the course. Core studies include:

Networks

IT Professional Studies

Web Development

Database Systems

Modelling, Analysis and Design

Systems Architecture

Core Project Initiation

Object Oriented Programming

Core Project Management

 

You can choose your major from those available at the time of your enrolment. Advice is available to guide you through your choices, leading to particular employment opportunities or further study into an honours or postgraduate degree. Course changes are currently planned to enable students the option of not completing a major, but rather complete a selection of units from one or more specialised areas. Majors available in 2008 are:

Information Systems:

nformation systems is a broad discipline ranging from consulting to programming, and from multimedia systems to workflow management. Information systems involve the integration of complex information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of business and other enterprises enabling them to achieve their objectives.

Network Systems:

Computer networks are universal – a critical element to the sharing of information and operations within organisations. The network systems major will give you the knowledge to monitor, analyse, design, plan, implement, administer and manage these networks. You will acquire knowledge and skills required to work with network protocols, services, management, administration, security and wireless networks.

Software Architecture:

The design and development of information architecture systems and software is a key activity in the information technology industry. This major will provide you with the knowledge and practice of modern software engineering techniques and environments. You will have a detailed knowledge of component software technology and how this will impact on system design and construction.
